Video of children smoking leads to arrests
A viral Snapchat video depicting Winston-Salem children smoking has caused controversy online.
The Winston-Salem Police Department sent out a press release on Aug. 28 regarding a Facebook video allegedly depicting three children being given “what appears to be an illegal substance” by two adult females. The suspects, Michaela Pearson and Candice Little, have been arrested on charges of felony child abuse and three counts each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Both Pearson and Little have a secured bond of $150,000 each.
The arrests occurred at 2115 Peters Creek Pkwy at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pearson and Little did not have any weapons and were not resisting arrest. Various items of drug paraphernalia were seized at the time of the arrest, the press release stated.
“Officers, who worked in conjunction with Child Protective Services, identified the involved parties, all of which were all subsequently located at 2115 Peters Creek Parkway,” the release stated. “The children were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment where they remain for observation.”
Child Protective Services is conducting an independent investigation.
