Winston-Salem seeks nominees for Walk of Fame
Nominations are being accepted through Feb. 26 for the Winston-Salem’s new Arts, Culture, and Entertainment Memorial Walk of Fame, to be created outside the Benton Convention Center.The City Council authorized the Walk of Fame last fall to honor deceased Winston-Salem residents who made a significant contribution in music, dance, theater, writing, visual arts, motion pictures, television, or radio. For purposes of evaluation, a significant contribution is one that is iconic in terms of renown and impact on the artistic disciplines or popular culture. To be eligible, nominees should meet the following criteria:â€¢ The nominee(s) exhibited sustained excellence in his or her field for at least five years.â€¢ The nominee(s) made distinguished contributions to the community and civic-oriented participation.â€¢ The nominee(s) is deceased.â€¢ The nominee(s) was a resident of Winston-Salem for at least five years. Nominations will be reviewed by the Memorial Walk of Fame Nominating Committee, a diverse panel of citizens, representing various artistic disciplines and fields within the entertainment industry that will review nominations and recommend up to five nominees each year to the mayor and City Council. More information and nomination forms are available at CityofWS.org/Walk of Fame. The deadline for nominations for 2016 is Friday, Feb. 26. Each honoree will be memorialized with a bronze star embedded in the sidewalk around the Benton Convention Center. Due to pending construction on the Benton Convention Center, the 2016 honorees will be recognized in 2017, along with the 2017 honorees.
